    It looks like it might be an ancient coin. I'll post it over on coin talk to see if anybody recognizes it.

    I don't think it's a button. It looks like it was drilled to wear on a chain. But what do I know? LOL

    I was wondering if it was a repurposed broken button and was going to ask if the dimple on the back is in the center.

    Then I pulled out Hughes and Lester "The Big Book of Buttons" and flipping through found this and couldn't help but notice the similarity. I don't know what is meant by "costume trims" though.

    Just a guess, but I would say that "costume trims" would be small decorative items attached to clothing (costume) for aesthetic purposes? Like sequins, for example. But probably not in the quantities in which sequins are often attached.
