What gems are these?

    rings 006.JPG rings 008.JPG Can anyone tell me what gems are in these rings? The ruby one is marked 10k gold and the other is sterling silver. rings 006.JPG

    We can only guess, there are too many possibilities including glass. You need to have them tested to know for sure :(

    I agree, it is difficult.
    Can you see any bubbles when you look at them through a loupe, especially the red ones?

    Looks like man made rubies,maybe 6x8 mm.I think the stones sell for around one dollar at this time.

    If they hit 7 on the gem tester they're probably garnets and chrysoprase respectively.

    Looks fine Stormy, no mess, we can still read the text.:)
    Next step is to test them, or have them tested. As evelyb said, the red could be garnets and the green chrysoprase, possibly aventurine.

    I have a bunch of jewelry I want to test the stones on. What is the best instrument to purchase for this? I don't mind investing a little bit, can anyone give me any suggestions? Are they hard to read?

    The standard is a Presidium gem tester. They're not inexpensive but they work. Others can give more details about models, etc.
