Featured what exactly is this? Im confused

    I found this at my local thrift shop today. I got home did a little research but couldnt find anything right away but eventually found one very similar. There are a few difference though between mine and the one in the link. The one in the link states that it is a lamp. There is also a wire sticking through the middle of the top and the one in the link has a copper cage. Mine has no hole for a wire to go through and the cage around mine appears to be a totally different metal and not copper. Also mine appears to be older looking as well. I tried to look for a maker/ name on it but couldnt find anything. There are 2 screws on each side holding the cage. So im wondering is the one in the link modified/made into a lamp? I looked on mine to see if the top comes off and it does not and it doesn't seem like a lightbulb would even fit in the top part of the glass to fit inside. So im wondering what exactly is this and want to get your opinions on what you think it might be. Any info would be much appreciated!

    Could be just something that would look pretty with the sunlight shining through it. Not old with that construction and those screws.

    Reminds me of the glass balls they used for throwing on fires, once upon a time,Maybe someone added the cage but wdik, Never seen one that color

    Thank you all for the info! It looks pretty neat in front my picture window when the sun hits it so I think I'll hang on to it for a few. Thanks again!

    That is so pretty! My mom had one similar, not in as good of shape, that she hung from a post in her butterfly garden outside her picture window. Called it her gazing ball. The butterflies loved it.
