What do you think about crazing?

I wanted some opinions on items with crazing; natural crazing not that reproduction type. Are items with crazing still ok to use? I have a few items from mid-century, like vases and dishes that have crazing but can I still use them safely. I'm posting a picture of a platter with the type of crazing I'm talking about. I'd love to hear all opinions, thanks!

It depends on the piece whether it affects the value. The Doulton witch pieces I collect all have crazing but they still get a lot of money for them. It does affect how you should use them. Crazing means breaks in the protective surface so any liquids will seep under it and eventually cause staining and more crazing. I never soak my pieces in water and try to limit the amount of moisture that comes into contact with the surfaces. Oils and fats are a HUGE no-no!

I would choose something else to use myself and keep them for display.

Food juices may seep into the fine cracks (which is what crazing really is) and won't do the piece any good (don't know if anyone has ever really checked about bacteria that could grow). Even water in vases has the potential of seeping out onto surfaces.

The long lines on yours I think of as more substantial than fine crazing though in the end, either way, they are considered flaws and should be mentioned if selling.

I think it's safe to use but might get ugly over time, maybe not in your lifetime.

Yes, this is what I've been thinking. None of these items are that valuable, so why not enjoy them? Maybe just a few times.
