    Hello
    I live in England and so does my seller.

    Sellers description;

    17th Century Antique Oak Westmoreland Hanging Wardrobe
    A wonderful, much smaller than usual dated 17th century period oak Lake District hanging cupboard / wardrobe in super condition and all a very good colour. The original carved top rail is dated 1678 along with the initials T B I and with lovely seaweed carvings. A beautiful size, inside are the original oak peg hanging hooks along with a later central hanging rail. This early antique period oak Westmoreland hanging cupboard has two panelled doors over a blind base, the sides are well panelled and have line moulded decorations. The backboards are just amazing. All in excellent condition, standing on tall square legs, just the oak cornice is later and with early 19th century hinges. Perfect for to use for coats within a hallway, as well as a period oak wardrobe in a bedroom.

    Dimensions
    Height: 161cm (63.89")
    Width: 119cm (47.22")
    Depth: 47cm (18.65")

    Also, notice the date 1678 has been carved into the top rail.
    Do you think this is genuine? How does £1,650 sound?

    I only see "678", not "1678".

    Wouldn't know good Restoration furniture if I fell over, or into, it. That said, it's solid wood and looks ready to go back to work , and modern solid wood pieces cost a packet. Dunno as I'd pay $$$ for anything without giving it a good going-over in person though.

    @Happy! I was thinking the same thing. After I googled around a bit it seems that is the date and most others I saw skipped the 1 too. I guess they didn't think ahead or thought there would be an apocalypse before 2000. It seems that many of the pieces were made to order and would be initialed and dated... at least that is what I have read.
