All those vent holes so near to the bottom don't look amenable to holding fishy items.

Not enough answeres, too many threads!! Lox you dry rub cure in the fridge but wrap in plastic and weigh it down to squeeze out the liquid, herring you pickle in a liquid vinegar solution to dissolve the bones and cure the flesh, then eat it as pickled or add sour cream and onions like I do! - so I say none of the above! I think the Onion holder is the best idea!

What language is that? I check German, Polish, Norwegian and Lok wasn't onion. Maybe a type of onion...or a different language :D

Most that I found were enamel or granite ware, open & hung on the wall.

    Thanks :)

Swedish. No surprise finding that in this country, or wouldn't be if it came from the upper Midwest or Connecticut. Both areas had a good pile of Swedish immigrants at one point, and Minnesota still has a very strong Scandinavian influence on the culture. IIRC the Norwegians still have a consulate in Minneapolis.

Searching for or trying to translate words in languages that use non-English letters can lead you astray or into an abyss.
