These 2 items are hand painted to look exactly alike, even though you can see differences in them. I believe they are glass. The hardware appears to be all original and they are exactly alike. They are about 17" high. The past owner said that he purchased them from the Gladys Werlich Estate back in the 70s.

    Thank you for your help!

Actually, neither technically. They would have been garnitures on either side of (perhaps) a mantel clock. Just for pretty. Ewer shape but not for serving wine either.

Sometimes you see these converted to lamp bases, but it does not appear that these were.

Glad for the feedback, buyingtime! I did say (perhaps) and now I'll add - (or maybe not.) ;)

I'm just curious (yeah, I know what curiosity did to the feline, but I got 6 lives left, so lets roll the dice!), why would you assume that because it accompanied a clock it would necessarily be of a better quality? I am fairly certain that manufacturers have been producing tumpery garnitures for the masses since craftsmen have been producing quality goods for those that could afford them. IF (note - IF) these pieces accompanied a clock, it would probably have been of the same quality. At least, that's where my logic lead me.

Now, mantel garnitures were often 3 piece, but not always a clock. Asian "garnitures" would often be two items of the same shape and a third (in the middle) of a different shape, but all 3 decorated the same. And of course, there were lots of pairs of vases, etc. I haven't seen a clock set in glass like these ewers (not that that means anything) but I've seen a lot of clocks set in porcelain.

Superb point. I was just going under my impression of them which could be, and often is, faulty.:bucktooth:

Thank you for all of the feedback! I have an idea of what they are now. I don't have a mantel to put them on--LOL--Do they have a value or are they just old pieces the rich once used.
