Hi everyone and a Happy New Year to you all! :joyful:

I have this necklace which I am wondering what the main beads are made from, as they remind me of moonstone, however a couple of the oval beads seem to be clear, more like quartz. There are also a couple of beads that have a mix of clear and cloudy qualities in them.

Any help would be great, thanks. :)

Have you got a UV light? If so, see what reactance it produces.

Have they got a slight orange tint to them if you hold them at different angles?

Thanks for the replies. I took a photo under the UV and tried to upload it but it is saying it's too big. It's a brand new phone so I will have to see if I can reduce the size somehow to show you.

I think the main thing is that the UV shows up the fact there is a cloudy and clearer part in the beads. I haven't noticed any orange tint but I will double check tomorrow before I hopefully upload the UV photo!

Givre or sabrina glass beads, looks like. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a pearl paint coating on them at first and it wore or cracked off over time.

They have an opalite glass look to them too - to throw another word out. Opalite glass was used to make faux pearls quite often.

Email the photos to yourself, an iPhone should give you a choice to send at medium. Then save the photos from your email and try posting them again!

Thanks everyone, I have a Samsung phone so those directions don't work. I have found a re-size function though, so I am going to try and attach it here and I hope it works! If it does you will see some banding in the beads.

I haven't heard of those glass terms either, thank you for sharing them with me. Interesting if they were once faux pearls, I have had ones before where the coating started to come off but they were small round faux pearls, not as big as this and I haven't seen the full bead underneath before, so some great new information, thank you.

Edit; - success.....the photo loaded....yay, I now know how to use my phone!! :joyful:
