So went to a sale an bought a truck load of old tools an this was in there. It mounts on a bench and hand crank the two little pieces in the middle rock back an forth when the crank is turned. But it's so small does anyone have a clue. I tried all the different key words I could think of but can't seem to find anything like it. TIA

If I had dimensions I’d ask some friends.

Okay so it's 8.5 in long not counting crank and handle. Oh an there are no marking I have been able to find.

These seems to be the only part that moves when the handle is turned. The two little blade looking things kind of rock or pivot back and forth over this shaft.

And then the next 2 pictures seem to be adjustable by the thumb screws

Thx for additional photos. I posted this on the local machinist’s club listserv, with a link back to here. I’m sure someone will know.

“I’d like to help the person who posted pix of this 8.5”-long machine; I have no idea, can anyone identify the function? A pair of opposed cyndrical points oscillate in the horizontal plane when crank is turned. Other parts are articulated but the owner doesn’t mention those.”

I brought it inside and cleaned it up a bit and found some number stamps on it. On the body it has a number 13 under the paddle looking things it has the number 2 and on the back side of the arm looking thing it looks like a 26.

One machinist thinks it is a tooth-setter from a bandsaw. The idea of a saw-tooth setter had crossed my mind also but with no vise to hold a saw blade, I didn’t bring it up. But this device could well have been attached to a coarse-toothed bandsaw (one for sawing logs. for example.)

Ran into this ad vid by accident, it shows a modern, manual bandsaw tooth setter in use. So these are still produced and used.
