My dad says they remind him of greek caryatides, so now they are pretending to support a shelf on my (obsolete, got central heating)fireplace. Another great find from the inhertance. I wonder were they once part of an eleborate door frame? And if so, when was this the case? 2017-01-29 14.45.25.jpg 2017-01-29 14.45.11.jpg 2017-01-29 14.44.47.jpg 2017-01-29 14.44.55.jpg 2017-01-29 14.47.16.jpg 2017-01-29 14.47.45.jpg

Those women have attitude! I don't think I've ever seen caryatids with crossed arms before.

Hate to break it to you, opoe, but the one on the right, facing left, is a boy.;)
    And yes, a definite attitude.

Hehe, I thought he/she was just better at hiding them.
They are very heavy and solid. What material would that be?

Judging from the back photo, they look like plaster.

If he had them, he'd show them, with that attitude.;)

That's what I was thinking as well.
Or instead of a doorway - Window frame?
I think too short for a doorway, but then I don't know architectural designs as all.

I cannot, at all imagine, a window. A doorway if elevated on a pedestal maybe.

Second floor window? I didn't look hard for ones with figures. But something like this?

Fireplace, I bet. Here's one with similar figures in wood.

Aahh, Prague, my favorite city, been there many times... Opening that last door I can imagine seeing mine next to a smaller doorway...

Certainly one of my favourites as well. I was there in the early 70s, Communist era. Very different atmosphere then, a lot of communication was very hush-hush. But a beautiful city, and beautiful countryside as well.

First time for me was in '92, on a school trip, just before Czechoslovakia ceased to be, the atmosphere was definitely different than I was used to, we had an american exchange student with us and the hotel owner was an old staunch communist, so that did not go too well... second time in 1996, a lot had changed, people were much more relaxed and open.
