I sold a similar beaded stick/club umpteen years ago that I believe was Maasai. Yours is a little different but I'm guessing might also be an African club.

Yes I would think from South Africa.Symbolising traditional african (Zulu or Xhosa) weapons. Beaded knobkerrie and beaded short jabbing or hand spear.

Well I did see this kind of beautifully beaded items when I visited South Africa recently. We went to a place where beaded items were made by artisans. I took some photos of some of the big full size pieces.

    Yeah, bearded! ;)

Thanks most much folks. I think mine are slightly older, as in maybe 70s from the wear on them.

There's some amazing beadworkers in SA.

Here's what I brought back - not tribal like yours at all but fit in my suitcase.

I adore the large figurals! The car with chickens is a hoot! That takes talent, patience and a lot of time!

Aren't they fun. There were others, but I was called to class to make a star - don't ask. It is pathetic.
