Based on previous comments from @Taupou I am thinking this is a Navajo weaving. But I know Mexican weavings just like this are common. Is it Mexican? Thank you.

    How big izzit?
I note 2 pale faces bracketing 2 dark faces. Is there any known significance to this pattern? Thanks...

Yeah-- I noticed that too. I'm not sure what if any significance.

    It measures 29" x 40".

Thanks, Potteryplease...I believe when/if the origin an' age is revealed, the story may get interesting. That's an uncommon image, and of more than casual importance.

These are yei figures, Navajo iconography, but the rug is Mexican - the warp appears to be white cotton - the Navajo use wool, and never leave a fringe like that.

Ok-- thank you for the assessment. I thought it might be Mexican, as the Navajo ones are often more elaborate. But I also thought it might be a Gallup throw weaving made for tourists.

At first glance, it does appear to look like a Gallup Throw, since it has fringe on one end only. But comparing the ends, it's easy to see where the fringe on the other end has been woven back into the body of the rug, making a different texture to the first couple of inches...proof that it's a Mexican rug, made to look like a Navajo rug.

It also looks like the outer warp threads on the sides of the rug are made up of a bundle of 4 or so warp threads, another clue that it is not Navajo.
