I was given this photo on Saturday, it was found in an attic of a farmhouse in Effingham, Surrey.
The boy at the front is holding a ball marked VPSC 1912, no other names or ID on it.
Do you think its a Water Polo team ?

Probably 80% of the people shown were wiped out 2 - 6 years later in WWI.

I mentioned to the old lady that gave it me, that if it were a similar group of young men pictured today almost half would be bald due to steroid use and be covered in tattoos.

I bet the old guy in the middle was younger than I am today.:D

To me it looks like a lot of players for a Water Polo team - I would think that VPSC is short for V(place) P(place) Swim Club................and yes, they would all be bald, bearded, tatted and wearing flip flops as opposed to being bare footed.............

BTW at first I thought they were an athletic club - wearing singlets - but the fact that they ARE bare foot makes me think that they are in swim wear...........I had a similar get-up when I was a mite...........

That's way too many for a single water polo team, isn't it?

My thoughts were the same as Mansons' - a Swimming Club from VP.

A quick Google search for "vpsc 1912 great britain" brought up references to swim clubs, but I didn't pursue them to see the details.

Actually although it was found in England it is not necessarily from England
I found VPSC Vancouver Pacific Swim Club[IMG] in Canada.

Addendum - I not only had a similar getup when I was a tot, I had a complete set of UNDERCLOTHES to wear beneath it.................its a wonder I learned to swim at all, as opposed to sinking like a washcloth in the bath...........

Davey, yeah, I saw the Canadian club link. At least you have a possibility there.

The only dinosaur I have ever seen is my self! And when asked my age these days, I paraphrase Jerry Herman ("Auntie Mame") - Somewhere in between forty and death..........................;)
