Hi, does anyone recognize the mark or label on this figurine? It is hand painted, heavy for its size, and about 5" wide and 6" tall. Any thoughts about maker or time period appreciated. And that is a cossack on a sled, right?

Does Walter still frequent this board. He has been so helpful.

    Thanks!

Walter does still come here sometimes. I gather he mostly checks the Pottery, Glass, and Porcelain forum but he may also look here in Antique Discussion once in a while.

I am going to try using this method to alert him to look at this thread. Depending on how his settings are configured, it might work.
@Walter Del Pellegrino , do you have ideas about this?

You're welcome... Oh, and I think these are cute. They also look very un-Russian in style. Which makes sense since they are Italian. They also look kind of French to me but I really don't know much about such things.

This looks more German than Italian. Sitzendorf? Don't have time to check Chris' site.

The label may be the importer or the seller.

From what I'm seeing on-line, the double crossed lines is the mark of Von Schierholz from the same region in Germany as Sitzendorf. A double line with a single crossed line is a Sitzendorf mark.
