    I picked these two up today. Not sure if they are original Staffordshire pieces or modern reproductions. The crazing in the glaze looks genuine but it might be forced. One is slightly bigger than the other. 27cm and 25.5cm tall.

    Yes, they look the part, but I'm no expert.
    I have a pair from a house clearance that I believed to be original,
    @John Brassey confirmed they were.

    “Peely Wally” = the pale skin colour common among unhealthy Scots - as pale as undecorated china.

    My father (who was born in Norway) used to say that our skin tone was "fish belly white." :hilarious:

    She should be very careful and use SPF 100.
    A childhood friend of mine had very fair skin, but she would insist on getting a 'tan'. After 15 minutes in the sun she looked like a lobster, and the next day her skin would peel.:eek: Of course she never got the tan she wanted, and it probably wouldn't have suited her anyway. She had the skin tone to match her type, so that was how she was supposed to look.

    Something I've never questioned or even wondered why. I just went along with it like a zombie. Nice to hear the explanation though.
