hello! New to the forum and had a query about an item my mum is looking at possibly selling. It is a solid silver cocktail shaker by Walker and Hall, Sheffield, deco style. I'm struggling to find much information online, as they all seem to be silverplated however this one is solid silver- over 17 ounces. Trying to avoid being fobbed off with a silly price as we understand it's pretty desirable! Anyone that could offer an idea of its worth, or how best to go about selling it? Thanks in advance! Trying to upload a picture of it however it's not working :-/

No problems for me with pictures

The OP's silver shaker is probably going to fetch about 20% over the metal value, depending on sale method. Auction room is not a good idea, It would have to make 35% or so above metal value to make more than I'd give for it just to add to my silver hoard. I'd pay about £250 so do not sell for less than that.

A posh silver seller might ask double the metal value or more.

Ah ok, she's been offered £600 by an antique dealer- he seemed awfully keen and offered to travel to collect it. Just made us wonder if it's worth more than just the metal value due to the maker or rarity...

That seems a very generous offer. I'd take it, like a shot.

Of course it's worth more, & if he buys it from you he deserves to get more....cuz he's got a store and he's got clients & he's a businessman who makes his living knowing and dealing in items like this.

Nice shaker! Offer seems more than fair from a dealer. Whether or not you could get more elsewhere remains to be seen. Some of the art deco shakers can get pretty pricey and they need not be sterling. Here are sold shakers from ebay ordered highest to lowest price. There are a couple sterling ones in there that are not as nice as yours...........
