I have a little W.H. Goss crested George V coronation mug with markings I have not seen before and what looks like a hand written signature on the bottom. I plan on selling this and I have two questions that I need to answer before I do.
#1 Does anybody have any suggestions on how to signify that this is truly an unusual cup? It's certainly not rare, but I have not seen a bottom like this one.
#2 Can anybody make out the handwritten name or phrase on the bottom. There is an embossed W. H. Goss on the outer right edge which is difficult to see. The writing in gold appears to be Goss. I have seen other mugs with a gold mark like a slash but none with actual words.
    Thanks for any help.

Jen and George, perhaps I am not understanding your question(s) but . . .

Because you think the gold writing says "Goss" . . .

    W. Huntley Goss was "Chairman" of the Alsager District Council (at some point in time) and this cup (probably given to the other members of the Alsager District Council) was produced by the W. H. Goss pottery company and Mr. (Chairman) and Mrs. W. Huntley Goss picked up the costs of producing the cup as part of their gift of the cup(s).

Is what I have answered what you also think?

Yes, that's what I think. But can anybody say for certain that the writing does say Goss? My eyes are not so good. And, because this was more in the nature of a gift to members of the District Council it is a more personal commemorative. How do I put those words in a title in order to draw attention without screaming RARE, RARE, RARE. Because even if it is rare it is still an inexpensive collectible.

I blew it up to about 400% on my monitor, and it still looks like a gold blob.

Hmmm, I have another idea -- what if that is the name of the recipient of that particular mug? Is there any way to find out who were the other members of the Alsager Urban District Council who served with Mr. Goss when he was the Chairman of that council?

Maybe the mug was "personalized" to each recipient either at the pottery or by a recipient writing his/her own name on the bottom of the mug?

I think that gold bit is a remnant of the paint or transfer from the side of the mug, I don`t see any signature or writing.
Alsager is a small town in county of Cheshire, north west England

Agree with all of you, but my question is still how do I title a listing so that this unusually marked cup stands out?

"Goss crested China George V coronation mug, Alsager Urban District Council"
Offer it to UK buyers as that is where most of the interest will be from.

Thanks. How do I offer it to UK buyers? Should I also mention that it appears to have been a gift to the Alsager council from Goss?

The picture of the bottom will be self-explanatory.

When you list it you will be given options as to where you ship, you can do worldwide or just continents and then you can check off the countries you are unwilling to ship to.
Put the appropriate shipping costs and also unregister from the GSP (Global Shipping Programme.

I think the interest in this will be the connection to W. H. Goss personally, as owner of the company. I'd want that in the title.

That's what I was trying to say but couldn't think how to word it. Thank you. I was losing my mind trying to think of how to word it.
