I think we need a "vintage" category! Anyway, I have these sunglasses; An old looking Rayban and what looks like Lady Gaga's grandmothers bi-focals, made by Pathway . Any idea on the style/age of these nifty items?

Let's not institutionalise the inappropriate use of 'vintage'.

I'd say they were both 1950s.. The Ray Bans are cat's eye style.

OK... Let's use 'Vitnage' as first noted instead.... That's surely different....
But don't call it Shirley. ;)

I've sold some vintage Raybans. There are a few hundred sites on any search engine, google, etc. that will narrow down age, style, and even value. I just typed "dating and identifying rayban" on Bing and found enough to keep you busy for an hour or so. But you will find everything there quickly.

AND, who said a few days ago that they cringe whenever "rare" is used. I don't quite agree. Sure it's wrong only 77% of the time. But OK with me.
HOWEVER, VINTAGE is very useful, often mandatory with wine. But I'm prone to go ballistic when it's used alone, without a date, e.g. vintage 1920, 1960s or, as most should say, vintage 2010.

The only rare I like is my filet mignon...the rest is over use by those just looking to sell stuff !

Just call me when you want to offload that second pair. If they'd hold a prescription lens I'd wear them in a heartbeat! The catseyes are nice too.

I've been considering putting up the word 'rare' at auction on eBidet. ;)

I'm looking for a specific type of Bolle's.
When i find them I read the description very carefully & then question the seller.

Remember that when you sell glasses the #1 overriding essential is ...clean lenses ... no one wants to wear a pair of glasses with scratches on the lenses.

    ( if it's just for a collector...it matters less...but not completely ! )

I would say that these glasses (particularly the RayBans) are vintage from around the mid 50s to sixties. The style is reminiscent of then but there was a catseye revival in the late 70s early 80s with these types of glasses so it isn't a solid indicator of age. However looking at the material and logo we can assume. That opaque matte plastic was well used for sunglasses and jewellery around that time until in the late 60s the shinier style glass became more popular and produced. Also, The Ray Ban Bausch and Lomb company did not start putting their logo more frequently on the right arm of their sunglasses until the 70s and it was engraved on the inside of the left arm like is sern on your sunglasses. I am not certsin about the other two but I would assume from the same era..they are very nice

I agree with both the above two postings. Wondering how easily nowadays lenses can be made and then inserted into a vintage pair like these?
