This painting is 22 1/2 X 26 11/2 My first impression lead me to think of Paris because of the fashionable dress off the women. Then the windmill had me thinking Dutch. After searching Moulin I was back in Paris.
I like this painting all opinions welcomed. Any help with the name and dating if possible would be appreciate.

The signature looks like it says Villica but don't know if that's going to help. The inner liner looks like rather dirty linen that also has water damage lower right.

The frame appears to be pickled which was a popular wood treatment in the 1950s/1960s.

Typical tourist art, circa 1950s. Thats what gives it its charm, vintage feel and the colors. I love those colors,so cheery.

The central area of Paris was virtually undamaged during WWII. Paris surrendered early on in the war and it was of little of strategic importance, unlike many other European cities.
The industrial neighbourhood of Porte de la Chapelle, not far from Montmartre, was bombed by the Allies in 1944. Devastating to the locals, but not on a scale other European industrial complexes, including in the UK, experienced.

Thanks Johnnycb09 Moulin Rouge is definitely a popular subject for artist to paint, lots of examples and a popular spot for tourist I would imagine.I have never been to Paris. I had an Uncle who was decorated by the French for his bravery during WW ll. He went to Paris during and after the war his lifetime. Happy Holidays Jhonnycb09

I looked at quite a few painting with the subject being Moulin Rouge. Aside form the windmill being a focal point that horse and buggy really grabs your attention in my view. Thats why the link you listed with a different version of the artist name is very interesting with thee subject matter being horses I've tried enlarging the liveauctioneers painting but was unable to find the signature Villiou or other works by this artist to compare. As always I am thankful for your input Happy Holidays

    Happy Holidays AJ,
I guest that the area has went through several renovations over the years. I like the soft pastel colors the fancy dressed women and men. The shadows the smoke from the chimneys. But what intrigues me the most is the single horse drawn carriage and the openness of a large square appearance. With Christmas being in the air I Look into this painting and imagine a rainy overcast sky with everyone scurrying around doing their last minute shopping on Christmas Eve. Happy Happy Holidays AJ
