I originally thought these were vintage Georges Briard but they aren't marked and I didn't see any via google images or pinterest. Does anyone recognize them? Small, square, charcoal colored glass enamel decorated wtih butterflies and Chinese characters. Approx. 3.62 x 3.62 inches. Thank you for looking! DSCF5249.jpg DSCF5250.jpg DSCF5251.jpg

Looks like Japanese (not Chinese) may help your search!

I am not sure but these may be considered smoked color glass.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

They are lovely. Did they have a function, or are they only for decor?

I'm still thinking they are by Chance. It's a known shape and colour.

I agree with you. I had some small vintage fashion trinket trays that were by Chance. I had never even thought about it. Thank you!

I've a couple of reference books on them, I'll have a flip through and see if it's a documented decoration. They did make a heck of a lot of one off, advertising and commissioned pieces though. The transfers were mostly made by Johnson Matthey.

I've had a trawl through the two books. They're wonderfully geeky. ;)

That decoration isn't in them, but the shape and colour looks right. There's countless undocumented ones, made for all sorts of customers. So I still think Chance.
