    Not finding anything on this flatware... Marked A.Z. Stainless, found only one set in solds on Ebay with bakelite handles. These are all stainless.... look very mid century modern to me. Thoughts? Also isnt a service for 6 somewhat unusual? Thanks! az.jpg az1.jpg az2.jpg

    6 is very common. Unlikely to have any value except for someone to use as everyday cutlery.

    Service for 6 was very common when the "norm" was service for 12 (half & half affordable). Since service for 12 is no longer the norm and service for 8 has taken its place, you don't see the 6 as often these days, but you do see service for 4 on occasion.

    Hi,
    I guess I should break up my sets of 32 and 40 then. I had a set for 50 but a friend who was opening up a catering service bought the set. In the last few years I guess my largest dinner party was for 10. I used to have them for 30 and 35. I don't think I even know 35 people anymore to invite for dinner.

    "it's a nice set......and different in a good way."

    Sleek and minimalist, sophisticated and pure - and IMPOSSIBLE for old, arthritic hands to hold.................they just go spinning around in your fist so that your licking soup from the bottom of the spoon and the chops go flying to the floor when the knife is upside down, and then the fork just slides right out of your hand and clatters on the plate...........

    But I DO like them...............

    Hehe...you mean old eyes....
    look carefully...they flatten out and are tapered one 1/3 of the way down...

    & you could always wrap them in hockey tape , making them graspier !!!:hilarious:

    The proportionally "short" blades on the knives and tines on the forks used to show up on what was called a "viande set." Intended for use at buffets. Don't know if this set was just coincidentally designed this way or was intended to be used as buffet ware.

    Look at the example pic and explanation at the bottom of this page. http://sterlingflatwarefashions.com/Utensils/Knives.html

    What does the box look like?
    I agree looks very 70s Scandinavian. Maybe that is why set of 6 instead of 8.

    What? Why should flatware set out for a buffet differ from any other flatware?

    I'm not sure, why International and then Oneida thought this was necessary, Book. Maybe they thought the shorter business ends of the knife and fork were more suited to smaller plates than would have been used on a formal table. {Shrug}

    Sets here are almost always for six. I like that one: it would sell quite well. Late 60s into the 70s.
