I bought this lamp in a local on-line auction a little while ago and just recently saw something similar in another auction. The lot I saw was a pair of "vintage" lamps with applied floral decoration similar to the one I have only the "decoration" was much larger. Those lamps actually have a sticker with the name CORDEY on the base. My lamp has no identification on it. The top of the lamp with the gold banding is almost identical. I googled Vintage Cordey Lamps and again found lamps with similar floral decoration and almost identical "tops" but did not see this identical lamp. The lamp I have is a large lamp being about 20 inches to the top of the porcelain/pottery. Just wondered if anyone might be able to tell me if the lamp pictured is a "Vintage Cordey Lamp" ??? Any information greatly appreciated. THANKS

I know nothing about this company. However in searching google images, it certainly appears to be made by the same company others are calling Cordey.

Yours has the finely detailed roses as well as the hand painted leaves. Gold trim and brass bases.
I see it in both matte and porcelain finishes.

    Wait for other opinions.

The history of the Cordey name is rather convoluted and I'm not sure anyone understands it very well. (See Lehrner's Encyclopedia of U.S. Marks on Pottery, Porcelain, & Clay). And the products of the companies using the Cordey name are not well documented. As a result, unless it's marked Cordey I don't think you'll ever get a firm answer. As cluttered noted, it is in the style referred to as Cordey and that may be the closest you can get to a firm attribution. Even stickers aren't totally reliable as anyone can get a roll of them printed up. Just ask the glass people.

I would guess if you went back to the auctioneer and asked him/her how they know the lamp is by Cordey they would say because they've seen other lamps sold with that attribution. Not the best of worlds but when documentation is lacking sometimes "in the style of" is the best anyone could do. I'm not usually a fan of Cordey style lamps. To me they are a little gaudy. But your lamp has a very classic shape and the applied florals don't overwhelm. I think it's quite lovely.
