Vintage Chalkware Baby

I purchased this old chalkware baby yesterday. I looked around for one like it and couldn't find one. It's made out of solid plaster, it's hand painted and measures about 4 1/2" in length. There are no maker marks on it. Does anyone know how old this chalkware baby is, where it may have been made and who made it?

I do not think a piano baby, they were usually 10 to 12 inches long. Good guess though Digger.

I'm pretty sure it's the baby Jesus from a Nativity set. Aha. Mary already said that. I can check with a Christmas collectors site I follow and see if anyone can ID the particular set.

 

Here's what they said:

"This was not sold as part of a set. These came is several different sizes, some sold with cribs. They were "knock offs" of a Hummel figure called the Infant of Krumbad", which was available in many different sizes."

 

Wow, this information just amazes me! Thanks Bev, I would have never guessed, who would have thought an old chalkware baby was actually a replica! I must admit, I am surprised, this figurine was so dirty with what looked like 100 years of age before I cleaned it up. But Bev, it does match the Hummel figurine Infant of Krumbad in design so you are correct, thank the Christmas collectors set you follow for me. BTW, I have since found a few others made and copyrighted by AM. Art Co. dated 1959 and 1969 that look similar, check the links below. How could AM. Art Co. place a copyright on the ones in the links? Looks like they were active in the early 1900's for other things I found on them.

It's a Facebook site called The Golden Glow of Christmas Past. Their rule is to post anything 1970 and before. They have a huge convention each year. Some of them put up trees all year long and they often have multiple trees for their different collections. It's an amazing site.
