Thinking this must have been a trend at some time. People could buy letter charms to spell their name? This one spells "Gayle".

Surely has some age, and thinking from a country other that US. For some reason reminds me of things from Israel, but could be totally off base. Has anyone seen similar? Not sure what to call this other than a "charm bracelet". Thanks for taking a look.

Edit, now finding some of these from Italy and called "Etruscan".

Correct these would be opals? (Assuming low grade, but opals, right?)

Etruscan, it ain't. It has cannetile work. I suspect this is one of those souvenir things, where you can get your initials added. Looks Eastern, if anything: I think the stones are glass.

Thanks. Agree, was likely a souvenir item with the initials like that.

If you search vintage "Etruscan charm 800 bracelet" (Or Etruscan revival) on Ebay, a bunch very similar pop up and all seem to say Italy. But maybe a keyword trend got started, Lol.

Most I saw have stones like Carnelian, onyx, etc. Will keep looking, thanks!

Silver charm bracelets were popular here in the early 70's.

It is Italian made, and the cabochons are glass. I suspect this was either assembled in Italy for a US tourist, or imported into the US with a choice of lettered charms to form a name. Gayle is not an Italian name.
Most of these cannetille 'Etruscan' charm bracelets are mid-century.

I tried to locate the most similar chain link. I love the start/planet charm. That one in particular was not seen in my search. The prices seem to be over $250 on average, so tourist, or not, it's a cool piece.

I'd still not call it Etruscan, unless they were into bells and very atomic planets. ;)

The Pandora of its day, eh?

Tourist is not necessarily a bad thing, many people get confused by that. Nice items are nice items, I would never say any different, as many people here know.
I collect different types of art and jewellery which were made as souvenirs. But only quality pieces, not junk.
Here is a thread on one of the types of souvenirs I collect, Balinese Art Deco carvings, highly collectible if nice quality:

Tourist pieces can be fabulous. Think Grand Tour, for example.

So all I have to do is find a Gayle or Elyag. yagelya
Good point, yes! No wonder I had a hard time photographing it all as one name.

I supposed the letters could stand for different things (??) or too much of a coincidence that it spells Gayle? Honestly could not find another one of these online ...with the letters.

Maybe she can change the spelling, and you can give it to her for her birthday.:playful:
