As soon as I start to scroll, the first link "blanks" out, but the second one works, as does the video, thanks!

It is! I don't think everyone can access that link, so here it is:

The shoe is remarkably similar to today’s. Modern horseshoes tend to have more nail holes and the standard is that farriers put 3 nails on the inside and 4 on the outside. It’s interesting to see what looks like nail heads left on the shoe as some very old shoes looked like they were tied on.
Obviously the heads of the nails in Viking times were huge so their horses must have had very strong feet to take such big nails without splitting!. Many modern horses, particularly thoroughbreds notoriously have poor quality hoof horn and are a nightmare to keep shoes on. The square bottom left is possibly a stud to prevent slipping.

Modern shoe and nails. The nail heads sit into the groove to stop the heads being knocked off when you go down the road and the groove fills with grit as anti-slip.

Modern shoe with two screw in studs fitted to prevent slipping on wet ground. Farrier got a bit nail happy with how many nails he used!

This horse has 2 Stud fitted in the heel of each shoe to enable tight turns during competition. The boots are there partly to prevent injuries from the studs or shoes.

Are you bored now? I could go on and on!

I read and read these articles. They were a page turner all the way! Thank you for sharing this link, although the very last article was sadly all too true in NY right now.
