This is another piece from my recent ephemera acquisition. It is 15 1/2" tall. The cardboard flap, consisting of the kneeling boy and the kite, folds on the sides and bottom and forms a pocket. It has never been folded on the bottom so I haven't folded it either.

What would you call this? I haven't been able to find one like it, yet I'm sure it's not that rare. I can find similar ones made in Germany by Googling embossed die cut Christmas card holder, etc.

My best guess is a party favor type of thing, filled with candy for each kid.

Thanks cluttered. I believe most of the items in your link are "pop up" valentine or greeting cards.
I think this is to hold cards, or envelopes, or bills, or something.

Hmmmm - that's an idea Bronwen.
It's got a hole for hanging.

It could still be a party favor. You ate the candy, played with until you broke or lost the small toy & hung the picture in your bedroom. I'm making it up, of course, but I really don't think it was meant to go into long term service, like a letter rack & don't think it was meant to please adults. If they went into the hands of kids, that would explain why not many are around.

Looks like the kneeling boy has eyes for the standing boy. He is very cute.

I need help - I thought those were part of the tail of the kite.

I think it's one of these, only different :D:

This was made in Germany. That little flat area on the bottom front has been folded to form an open top box. They are calling it a Christmas card holder.

I thought perhaps they would hold a hankie but that is just a guess.

It would not hang straight if suspended from that off center hole. It looks deliberate, so maybe some kind of ribbon or yarn accent was there?

How wide & deep would the little box be if assembled?

    I doubt it held candy.
Looks like it is only about 1/4 - 1/2" in depth at the bottom, widening as it goes up.

I didn't have time this morning to look further.
You're right they are Valentine's cards.

I just put in birthday pop up and still got valentines. That's strange, why wouldn't they make pop up birthday cards.

First thought was, "Dummy Board" but, it might be too small.
