I can't find any information on grandparent's table. Google image search shows similar looking tables as Victorian or Eastland (?), yet nothing on point for a table like this. Most others show marble tops. This table top pivots then unfolds into a bigger table. I'm stumped to find anything like it. Table came through family in Lancaster PA. Dunno. But trying to find out learned a new term. "Chalice finial."

To my knowledge, typically called a game table. Does appear in the Eastlake style, but others here will know better than me.

Renaissance revival game or card table circa 1875. Does appear to be walnut.

I was afraid someone had it refinished over the years, but found a photo from the late 60's or 70's showing it in this condition. There is some slight staining on the unfolded surface. I regularly treat it with oil.

Thanks for that information. Yes, I'm fairly certain it is walnut.

No marks at all, just the wooden pivot mechanism underneath.

What Verybrad said. A walnut game table, I’d say late Renaissance Revival ca. 1880s. Very well taken care of!

With a chalice finial! (As Alexander Pope said... "A little learning is a dangerous thing")
