Featured Very old, Antique Kokeshi dolls. signature help.

Picked up these little guys today also.
the taller one is 31/2" tall and the shorter is 2"
Both hand painted. There is a signature on the back of the larger one. hope someone can translate it.

It is difficult to make out, but it could be 'bi' which is beauty, or possible Sansui which is a relatively common name. Be aware though the mark isn't clear so it may be something else entirely.

 

I know nothing about Kokeshi dolls.

When you say "very old", "antique" what age do you think they are?

I think there is someone here that used to collect them, or perhaps still does.

I just look at the paint. The crackling lacquer. I don't know if I am correct though.
