Hi I am Carrie and I recently inherited My grandmother's estate
I have 22,000 pounds of new old things. I am doing my best to identify and preserve these items and as it is too much for me to do I will be selling/ donating things as I go. I appreciate in advance any help. I have been researching for months and my knowledge is minimal but expanding. I am very interested in doing the best possible thing to preserve history and my grandmother's items.

Go slow, if in doubt about something, keep it.
Can't tell you how many times I hear people walk through the store and say they wished they had kept things and didn't.

Your tastes and likes change as you grow older.

Post clear pictures with measurements and we will help all we can.
    Welcome to the board.

    Good advice.....but I'll add...you can't keep everything...so focus on what's memorable..

Welcome, Carrie! I am sorry for your loss, but applaud your desire to do the "best possible" thing with your inheritance.

Is that 22,000 pounds in weight or value?

Always try to check out the things that you want to donate. Sometimes people give away Thousands of $$$$$$ because they think it is worthless.

It is weight. The movers weighed everything before bringing it from California

Three 50 foot trucks, packed to the top, New York to Chicago in 2000 cost me $30,000. And that was with a "family" discount, a firm we have done business with for decades and had a small interest in. I think the highest "cost" on the itemized bill was for something like a road tariff, charged by weight, in Pennsylvania, which cost more than the fuel...................................

Oh, I'm sure I got ripped off but the first company retracted their services 2 days before the final day and we had to short notice take anything available

They also caused some damages to things like my antique dark walnut sofa and broke a very old pedestal table....
