    Hi,
I have just bought this china vanity or dressing table set - at least that's what I am assuming it is!
It is in a creamy yellow colour with a lustre or pearlescent/opalescent finish. The round lidded pot is quite large - about 9 inches across - what on earth would you keep in it? The two lidded pots are about 6 inches high. There is also a ring holder. Not sure if there would have been a tray with the set originally. I have never seen another set like this and am not sure of its age - looks pretty retro/kitsch & 1950s-ish to me. The bases are marked JG 80 and I have been unable to find anything about this but it has made me wonder if they were actually made in 1980. Any info/thoughts would be appreciated. 20220724_185927.jpg 20220724_190013.jpg 20220724_190045.jpg 20220724_190313.jpg 20220724_190352.jpg 20220724_190408.jpg 20220724_190507.jpg 20220724_190109.jpg 20220724_190626.jpg 20220724_190637.jpg

I would say likely made in 1980 by a hobbyist. If the hobbyist didn't make the actual pottery, they might have purchased the forms as white ware, painted it to suit, and fired them in a kiln. That was a fun thing to do back then.

Is it ceramic or celluloid plastic?
I think maybe, but am not sure, the large one you mentioned may be for dusting powder??
I think the set is lovely.

It's ceramic with a really smooth almost "slippery" feel to it, and yes, I rather like it too - it's growing on me more each time I look at it! You may be right about the dusting powder but at 9 x 4 inches it would hold a lot & need a very large powder puff! The two matching pots both had a strong scent of roses and even after I washed them there is still a faint trace left. I had promised myself (and my husband!) that I wouldn't buy any more china/glass/trinkets as I already have far too much stuff. But I saw this and just couldn't resist - they were practically giving it away in a charity shop!

It just occurred to me that
That would be a large powder box. I was thinking it might be a chocolate box / candy box. Glass companies made round chocolate boxes about that size. For instance, Heisey Glass in their Crystolite pattern plus many others.

They were made by the same person, but possibly not all parts of a set.
