I picked this lot up at a garage sale. I don't think I way over paid but at $35 its most likely all its money. The silver creamer and sugar bowls are weighted. Not sure hot to figure without destroying the bowls. Its not weighted but in the very bottom. The shakers weigh about .23 grams, The bowls about 90 grams each. Total for the two about 187 grams. Thanks for any help.

Is your intention to keep, sell or scrap?

If you search sterling cream and sugar on ebay sold items, you will see several similar selling in the $40-50 range (with some outliers either way). Hard to say if people are buying for scrap or use at that price. The damage to your pieces makes them pretty much scrap. Why not go ahead and tear them apart for an accurate weight?

Doing the same with sterling salt and pepper sets, I find values for similar up to $20.00 in very good condition. Scrap value would be less than $10.00.

Most recyclers go by a chart for weighted pieces. I always take the weighted parts out on run of the mill stuff. I use a can opener and cut the bottom right open . Weighted sterling is always priced too high for my taste. I think you paid pretty much what they are worth. Scrap might be less,as Brad said.

I did not scrap out the S&P shakers. They are no extra weights so no reason to damage them. But I scrapped out the creamer and sugar bowls. They come in at 2.5 OZ, not Troy just OZ. The S&P are .24 so close to 2.5 troy oz. So times by 92.5 and it comes to about 2.3 troy oz of silver. Melt value comes in at 53 USD. So I did OK.
