I am trying to find what the artist paintings are selling for but no luck so far. I can get it at good price but the piece is very large in size and would be expensive to ship.
    Any idea?
    thanks

I did a little searching and can find no values either. She definitely has a web presence and seems to have had a number of showings, albeit, local ones. On artists like this, I usually figure $100.00 or so if I am lucky. It is really all about whether or not someone likes the art. Being able to have some information about the artist always helps the sale but doesn't always mean more $$$ when you are talking about minor living artists. Even if her current paintings are selling for $500 or $1000, you have to think pennies on the dollar in the secondary market.

Thanks for the replies. I guess it won't hurt to try to contact the artist.

I'm having trouble understanding the "originality level" of this item. Although the back looks like canvas I don't see a signature on the front. Curiously, the back is signed both with artist's name and the name preceded by circle-c the sign for copyright. So could this be some form of serial reproduction even tho unnumbered, or is her method of signing an original work just new to me?

Spring, the signature on the back is not unusual. Many artists sign on the back instead of the front. Writing the name out legibly next to the copyright symbol might be the artists idea of being easier to find should someone want to reproduce the painting at some point in the future.

Thanks-have never learned much about 2D art but I do appreciate it- just saw something on TV about a new exhibit of Matisse's later-life art at MOMA-is all paper cutouts-had no idea that's all he did for his last 40 years after illness made painting impossible.

I have noticed a trend for modern artists to include a copyright symbol on their original works. I believe that it is an attempt to retain reproduction rights for the work.

    Hi Spring,
Thank you for bring up a sore spot and rubbing salt into it. In the 1970s I found a paper cut out and framed work of art. It was thrown out of a wonderful old apartment building in NY which had a fire. It was a blue nude and signed Matisse. I had for two or three weeks and a friend of a friend was visiting and saw the thing. She got very excitied and was telling me me it was an original Matisse. I never put the paper cut out as to THE Matisse. She got me very nervous and very greedy. She and I went to her work she worked at a small gallery on 57th Street. Her boss got very quiet but was showing excitement because his fingers were doing air piano all over his desk. He wrote me out a reciept for the piece. Two days later he called and told me the bad news, it was not by Matisse but a student. I was very disappointed and asked when I could come and pick it up. He said he had a buyer who was willing to pay 125 for the piece. I began to get suspicious and declined. I went later that day to pick it up. I had the darn piece for a year and finally sold it for 15 dollars. I read later that Matisse did do smaller cut outs and gave them to friends. Today I am not sure if mine was real or not. I think it is better not to find out, after all it really did not belong to me, I just saved it from the trash.

Greg, glad I could help; anytime! If you get time to see that exhibit, let us all know. Maybe the small blue nude is in it?
