This cap is made in Chicago, its not in my possession.
Is it genuine, is it a Chicago police cap or some other city or state police.

After checking Google images of Chicago police caps this would appear to be a vintage one before the chequered band was added.

Midway is a company in Chicago that makes uniform caps for police, fire etc. It could be made for any force in any state. They sell them without the badges so each force can attach their own badge. The badge on this one looks generic. I would think a proper one would include the city name. That being said, I am nowhere near well versed on these.
Yes the cap appears to be an authentic uniform cap. The plastic holder insidewould be for a name card for whoever's cap it was. I have also known some officers that kept a copy of their radio codes in them also.

Now taking a second look at "Chicago Police Cap Badges" I did see a couple similar to your's but no exact match. It could be an authentic cap badge, but there is still no way to tie it to a particular state or force.

Is there a specific name for that shape of cap?

It very well could be a Chicago police cap, but here is where I would have a hard time selling it as one. There is a limited number of designs for police Uniform Caps. Many Forces could have bought the same design cap. Without anything on it that Identifies it as CHICAGO POLICE or a specific city......it could be from any force.

As far as I can tell, I think it's a Pershing Style cap.

They were called Visor Caps when I wore them back in the 70`s & 80`s
I have quite a few from around the world.

Good to know. I have a couple of non-official caps in this style... generic uniform things. Thanks

Badge looks kind of cheap and some details aside from color don't match the aluminum-colored real Chicago police badge. Hat is real but could go with any kind of uniform-chauffeur, security guard, etc. Perhaps someone bought the badge to make the hat sell for a little more.

I have 2 authentic winter coats...one a Montreal police jacket the other an RCMP winter coat.
Both were taken off the line before genuine brass buttons & one or two other additions were added to be sold to the forces.

Just to say that while the CAP is genuine...the badge is suspect.

Yep. I think someone got hold of a real uniform cap, and added a generic badge from a costume shop or the like. If it was sold be be used in television or the movies, that would make perfect sense. It could also be from a small town without the budget to make badges with the town name on them. The only way to be sure would be to take the badge off the had and check the back.
