My badge seems to be bronze, and I am not sure wether to look for generals insignia during Vietnam war era or earlier.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

This is from the "General Staff" branch of the army. These are officers who work in the General Staff branch. I don't think their rank is always General. General Staff is the name of the branch. The officers are commissioned and warrant officers only, as far as I can tell so far. The pin does not tell the individual rank.

Here is a PDF document with brief history of the General Staff Corps of the U.S. Army:

From reading this, I think yours is an earlier one, because in WWII the pin changed.

    Hello Figtree3!

I understood correctly from Hollyblue links, just wasnt paying enough attention when typing reply.
Links you provided are very helpful. Its funny that the masters paper you provided I first just browsed than started reading from the top and cant stop reading.
Here in Serbia we adopted german(or austrian more probably) term Generalstab but obviously the organization of US army and therefore scope of responsibilities differ.

I'm glad you are enjoying the thesis and that it was not too much information. :)
