Picked this up earlier for the novelty aspect. I've seen similar things online called medieval tiles but the back doesn't seem to show any age. Modern repro perhaps? It's 11cm x 11cm too, which might be a clue.

Made in the 20th century or later. Mexico maybe? I don't think it was made to fool anyone; it looks brand new.

Doesn't look particularly Mexican but not unlike a Medieval tile.

The clay looks like what I usually see that was made in Mexico. The design...no idea.

Thanks guys and I learned a new word, encaustic. I was thinking that the design might be relating to Aries but not sure.

Thanks for the links. At first I thought it maybe tanglebank but theirs are 152mm. Company of artisans are. Much closer in size 11.5cm, have a similar finish and are described as thick. Could possibly be one of them.

Aha. Just googled images of company if artisans and got this. A tile on the right is very similar.

You might try contacting them to see if they recognize yours. Even if they didn't make it, they might know who did.

Good idea above. They'd certainly know who else was working in their field.
