Hello, I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this unusual piece found in the back of my elderly aunt's cupboard. it is made of hard paste porcelain and is in the form of a basket made out of shells held together with antlers. It is very unusual. It is clearly well made and quite naturalistic and convincing. It measures 6.5" tall. Can anyone shed any light on what this type of ware might be called, where or by whom this piece may have been made and how old it is. It bears no maker's marks. If anyone can shed any light on this piece at all, I would be grateful. Thanks, Clare

Glad you all like it so much - it is unusual and I admit I have not seen anything else similar. Just wish I could track down what it is!

Wish I had more insight on this, but it second half of 19th c. to me and Continental (Germany?) rather than British, but I dunno for sure. Cool piece.

WOW!!! SO unusual!!!!! When you say 6.5" tall, do you mean to the top of the 'antlers'??

    I think it's German too.

That's great - the piece pointed out by Ratsy Brown is very similar to my piece so Germany seems likely. I think I agree with KentWhirled about date though - most likely second half of 19thC.
    Any further thoughts gratefully received
It's 6.5" tall to the top of the antlers.
