is this a real/ true Tichelaar Makkum plate?

unfortunately with iPhone i can not choose photo size and will try to upload front of plate also.

Makkum is a location and there are more than one factories that use it as part of their mark. I see you are waiting for the Discovering Dutch Delftware book but this particular mark isn't in it. There are other marks shown in the book that use "Makkum" and some initials as part of their mark that aren't from the famous Tichelaar Makkum.

Sorry I don't know who made it. Perhaps @Any Jewelry will know.

Thank you very much for your insight.

I can’t find anything on the net about any other makkum makers..like it’s been masked/ hidden. Even on Duckduckgo nothing.

My gut feel also that this is not Tichelaar.
    I appreciate your reply.

    Welcome Sared.

Makkum is the name of a village in Friesland, a northern province in the Netherlands. Just like Delft is the name of a town in Holland, in the west of the Netherlands.
If the mark isn't a Tichelaar (= tile maker) mark, it is likely to be by someone else. I am not familiar with this mark, but the front doesn't look like it was made by Tichelaar.
You could contact the Princessehof Museum in Friesland, they are specialised in ceramics and have an important Makkum collection. This is their email address: info@princessehof.nl

These are the others I see from Van Hook's book so you won't have to search for them.

Thanks to you i has managed to find info on the web:
The “W” under the Makkum mark indicates it is made by Hendrik van der Wal en Zonen (sons) between 1960-1970 before his son in-law Mr Nauta took the company over.

Here is a link to similar marked items.

What would i have done without you lovely, wonderful and helpfully friendly aficionados. Your’e all fantastic! Thank you so much.

Could be, always a little hard to tell when handwritten. I was thinking yours was VW. and I guess it could be just W or they could have written it as VW.

I think your correct to presume VW... and not my “W”. Maybe for Van der Wal.

The crazing on such fairly new (mid 60’s) plate do suggest sub standard quality (once again indicating Hendrik van der Wal product)

I await a reply from the Princessehof Museum. Maybe they will have more definitive information.

Hi all, this is the reply from Princessehof Museum:

    Dear Stephan,

Thank you for message. There is a catalogue of Makkumer pottery on line:

    http://fries-aardewerk.princessehof.nl/index.php?keuze=blader&boek=T2&zoom=1&afb=206

I didn’t find the painter’s signature on your dish, vW, in the book. This could mean that your dish is made after 1963 or that is made by another manufacturer.

    With kind regards,

    Karin Gaillard

At this stage everything i find on the net with “vw” are advertised as van der wal makkum items. So i would safely say this is a Van der Wal/ Nauta Makkum plate. The eccessive amount if crazing front and rear for such relatively new plate indicate inferior quality.

I don’t think it’s worth much, interesting yes, collectable as informational piece.. maybe... it is still available on auction for
$100... i think it’s to much, i will contact owner and negotiate.
