Unusual Japanese Champleve Vase

Hi all,

Would love to here your thoughts on this vase.

I believe that it is Japanese Champleve vase? Perhaps Meiji?

The shape seems quite unusual, as do the inset stones and I haven't been able to find anything similar.

(as if I'd know) The mark on the base looks Chinese to me. I'd have nabbed it without a backward glance or a second thought if the price was right.

 

even if the price wasn't right.........it's the 1st one like this i'v seen.....

 

from the few photos , it reminds me of those incense burners priest swing around in church, could it have done the same? why else the rings and hooks?

The rings are purely decorative, they are often seen on Japanese and Chinese items.

 

Agreed. Would really like to find one of these. And yes,the very interesting and unusual makes the pockets deeper.
