This is at my local auction. Its an odd little piece with its own odd little beauty. The carving looked a bit eastern to me but it's not a field I'm a 100% confident with.

Can anybody point me in some good directions.

My first thought was Scandinavian, so we seem to be all over the place.:wacky:
I like it, but maybe a measure for something rather than a drinking vessel?

So far, the only ones I find with the copper band are quite different:

Wouldn’t the decoration stick you in the eye if you drank from this?

I think the second, Austrian one could be related. So we have gone from Asia, to eastern Europe, to northern Europe, and finally to central Europe. Well traveled, I'd say.;)
That is why I thought maybe a measure for something. I could picture a lot of pirate types in whatever its home country was.:playful:

The plot thickens. Maybe it was used in several Austro-Hungarian lands. Slovakia is just one country away from Austria.

    Just a general observation:
Many posters think or ask if an item could be Tibetan. The items they ask about rarely are. Most items that look 'sort of' Tibetan are from Nepal. Items that don't look Tibetan, are unlikely to be Tibetan.

Tibet is a magical name, but in reality it is a country with a relatively small population.
When it comes to the main Himalayan countries the traditional saying is: Tibetans are priests, Nepalese are artists, Bhutanese are farmers.
Of course things are never as strict as that, but it gives an idea as to why Himalayan objects are more often Nepalese than Tibetan.
