Featured Unusual Antique Embroided Handbag - 18th Century ???

I've been offered the opportunity to acquire a very old handbag of some sort, which the seller claims to be from the 19th century.

As it's really too remote from the stuff I might normally collect, I'll probably give it a miss.

However, I do find it quite attractive and would be obliged to know anything more about it. It appears to be hand stitched, so I'm wondering if it is earlier than 19th century.
Also, I'd be grateful if anyone were to suggest a possible country of origin, or even if the bag had some purpose other than that of a run-of-the-mill ladies handbag.

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated !

 

From the general shape, and style of embroidery, I think it may be Ottoman Turkish. Compare with these:

I'm afraid I let it pass. I did deliberate, but eventually decided to retain my modest financial resources for another purchase - when it finally comes up !

 

what was the asking price ??
