One can find a number of examples on the internet. Some of them have the birds, some of them have wording. No one seems to really know if these are commemoratives or they were made sometime in the 19th cent. 5.jpg 4.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg 1.jpg

Does anyone know why "Vive" is written as a W?

I don't know if it extends to France, but in Italy, W is sometimes used in place of viva. It may have started as a graffiti shorthand for Viva Verdi, a political slogan with a hidden meaning (an acronym for Viva Vittorio Emanuele Re D'Italia) used in the mid 1800's.

In French, it's not "viva", it's "vive."
