Unknown pottery

    found at estate sale. Looks like terra-cotta 10" tall x 5" wide. Any insight will b helpful. Thnks n advance.

    Undoubtedly a modern recreation, based on Zapotec (pre-columbian Mexican) funerary urns such as this:

    He holds what is called a buccal, or mouth, mask in his mouth.

    Many styles of pre-columbian ceramics have been reproduced in Mexico since the late 19th century. Some of these reproductions can even be found in museum collections, because they were collected without documented archeological provenience.
