Circa early 1900s. It looks like the pattern was stamped lightly and then hand chased. Maker's marks are no help. Mostly retailer marks over them.

Terry, it's quite attractive (and the name "Berthe" is perfect in that space).

That's the 'Flat Rose' pattern - not at home to check for other makers, but Magnus Aase/Th. Olsons produced it for decades, sure it's still in production by at least one maker...

Thank you! It looks like a number of makers made this pattern. It must be the original Christmas spoon or something.

Not sure what it has to do with Christmas, but it's a traditional pattern based on an old Germanic pattern, produced by any number of Norwegian manufacturers - I've always liked its old-timey look. Th. Olsens was probably the most prolific Flat Rose maker, starting production circa 1900, originally hand crafted, then as a die-struck pattern in 1923 - Magnus Aase bought Th. Olsens in 1904, and they used the old M. Aase mark, Aase was still in business as a retailer. One of King Haakon VII's coronation gifts in 1906 was a full set of Flat Rose.

Found another today. Funny how I run into things in spurts.

No maker's mark and no silver.

'Nysølv'='New Silver' - electroplated nickel silver. Olsens still makes the pattern in both .830 silver and Nysølv - depending on its size, your piece is a tomato, cake, or fish server: http://theodorolsen.no/produkt/tomatspade-3/

Looks like maybe a piece of Marthinsen's 'Valdres' underneath it?

    Good eye.

The Flat Rose looks like cheap stainless after polishing.
