    I'm having a difficult time identifying this one. Any ideas?

    Before the experts get here, let me guess: the one mark looks like a hieroglyph, so... Egyptian?

    Nope. I went looking for a three fishes (maybe) city mark or maker. No luck yet.

    @moreotherstuff,
    I don’t see any hieroglyphs, but while waiting for the experts here, I polished it up. I was worried because that dark spotted tarnish looked like salt tarnish, which is nearly impossible to remove. But it polished easily. I also discovered an inscribed date of Sept 26, 1888, which makes it older than I was expecting.

    @Bakersgma,
    Yes, maybe not fishes. Here's a new angle.

    . . . and after polishing, there's more detail to the 13. Looks like 13-1/3, not 1/2. plus, following the "L" there's a Scandinavian looking "o" with the two dots above it.
    I did previously find Finnish marks with "13L" but nothing as complex as this one.

    Based on the other marks that seems a logical orientation. I suppose three penguins aren't likely. Three trees?

    @johnnycb09,
    Yes, it could be a brandy warmer, but a bit small for me at slightly under 3" diameter. If you google image search for sterling wood handle creamer, you'll see similar ones. Maybe let's call it "dual use".

    Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

    Whichever it is, I LOVE it!!!!! For ME, I'd probably want to take it to my jeweler and have him tap out that indented leg from the inside (at least that's what it looks like to me....) if it's not to difficult!!

    I often do that sort of thing myself. It wouldn't be hard in this case. Two of legs are indented to varying degrees, but somehow it stands level enough. I will think about it.

    Doesn't the German listing say it's a butter ladle, not a brandy warmer?

    It does. I suggested brandy warmer before i found that. I could see it for both uses. Are the legs hollow ?

    Yes, the legs are hollow. In one of the above photos you can see the little air escape holes at the tip of each leg (but inside the bowl the legs are sealed, not visible).
