Picked up this pot at an outdoor antiques market because I was intrigued by it. Bottom has excess glaze ground down. Pale yellow clay. Most distinguishing feature is the semi-hollow handles. Any ideas?

It's got a rim around the top, too. I wonder if it had a lid?
Nice glaze! Do you think the shape is Craftsman era? Is the design incised by hand or part of the mold, can you tell?

It seems American, 1940s to me.

I think the design hand incised. Is on both sides but partially obscured by glaze on the side not shown. I was attracted to it because of the glaze and arts and crafts shape but don't think it is as old as the A&C period. The way it is cast makes it a bit thinner and lighter than most older pottery. Forgot dimensions. Don't have it here right now but about 6-7" across and 4-5" tall.

Well, I've got California pottery in my head, but haven't been able to find anything like it yet. Though the clay color is more Ohio, I think. Am pretty sure I've got some unmarked California pottery with that clay color packed away somewhere.
EDIT: Also, that lip around the inside of the rim and the way it's molded, not smooth on the inside, makes me think of commercial molds for home/hobby ceramics and also post WWII Japanese import pottery. But still, the clay color seems wrong for both those ideas!

We are thinking along the same line in regard to the possibility of CA. I just don't know enough about CA potteries to know where to look.

Also, it's belt sanded on the bottom. Early Heager with thick, drippy glaze was belt sanded to make it sit level. Other pottery companies did that, too, but haven't been able to get the names to rattle out. Still, the molding is not right for Haeger.

Does that clay colour remind one of Camark? It's a mystery to me. Nice glaze.

I looked at this earlier today and just looked again. I don't think it is California pottery.

If 'Laguna' is still in business in Seattle maybe they will help. :) I would've snagged that too.

Appreciate the thoughts. Ruled out Haeger early on. Did Camark do this kind of thinner slip-cast wares?
