I know school desks are a dime-a-dozen, but this one I've never seen before, even doing an extensive google search. I've seen ones with similar bases but not the two shelves. I think this was meant for two students.

When my family owned a moving company and storage that started in the 1920's, a lot of about 30 of these desks was put in storage and forgotten over the years. I've tried to identify the local schoolhouse they came out of, but have not been able to do so.

I've assembled and sold a few over the years an am down to about a half dozen decent ones now.

Has anyone even seen a similar desk, or can tell me anything about these? I've sold them cleaned up and refinished ( though leaving all the scribbling and scratches in place) for $200.00 ea. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Have not seen these either. Would think late 19th or early 20th century with those ink bottle holders built in like that. The seat does look wide so might serve 2 small children if necessary. I think at $200.00 a pop you are doing great.

    Hi,
My early desks at school all had ink wells built in. In the late 1950s we got new desks and they had no ink wells.

Very cool looking. Depending on its size,Im wondering if this might be a college student/lab thing?

I do recall seeing a picture once--MANY years ago ...where 2 (of course young ones) students did sit at desks similar to yours....sorry don't remember any details to give you more context.....

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

What's that black metal contraption on the lower shelf?

I'm with you thinking older aged students. Possibly special class like science or drafting.
I can't see young children needing an extra shelf, or two bottles of ink.
