Unique Cabinet from WM A. Burkey...any insight you can provide?

Discussion in 'Furniture' started by Todd from Pennsylvania, Mar 25, 2018.

  1. I'm looking for info about this cabinet. It is 54 inches high, 26 inches wide, 12 inches deep at the base. It has a lower compartment that locks. Does anyone know what it is, how old it might be, and maybe an estimate of its value? any help would be greatly appreciated. I know nothing about antiques and very little about furniture. Mahogany
Maybe 1940s-70s Hard to tell from your pictures. Too dark and they don't enlarge when clicked. Probably on the later side with the wired glass. Any staples in the construction?

Do I see a plate endenture in the last picture? If so, then small china hutch. With a locking liquor cabinet.

In today's market, this style of furniture for the most part is not sought after.
Having said that, it is a small piece that will fit well in an apartment or in the small rooms of today's houses.
I have a lot of customers looking for small pieces of furniture.

Your locale and how you intend to sell it will make a big difference in what you ask for it.

  3. What appears to be a plate endenture is a reflection from the trim behind it. There are no endentures. I tried adding photos, but the program said the file was too large. Given your assessment, what do you think I should ask for it? My wife wanted me to post it on Craig's List. Would that be a mistake?

Its a very nice piece,I agree with 1940s or so. Here in n. fla you might get $150 on a good day, theres just not much call for this stuff. Wich is a shame, because its quality. Slap it on craigs for $250 and see what happens.Sometimes Im surprised at what sells.

Again your locale will determine price.

Here in Northern CA, I would put $225 on it and take the first reasonable offer. I have a retail store.

As I mentioned, people are looking for smaller pieces - be sure to put the measurements in your listing.
