I’ve looked but can’t find anything online with the flower decoration.
The flowers look to be hand painted on with enamel type paint/glaze but I don’t really know what I’m looking at.
I’m getting some similar items come up using cased and splatter but can anyone give me some more search terms to pin down the maker please?
One is in good condition, what looks like a crack down from the rim is just a line of colour but the other one has a chipped rim.
    Approx 7cm tall.
    Thankyou for looking :)

    Nice aren’t they.
I save nice pieces from the orange boxes of doom at car boot sales. I picked one out, moved to the next box and there was the other one! I’ve discovered I have a penchant for art glass. These were 50p each too so well worth it even if just for the education :)

Welz. Probably. Certainly Bohemian, late 19th/early 20th. Nice, too.

Very nice! Is that a tube pontil, in the 5th pic?

I love it too, but with my butterfingers, I keep my distance.

Awesome, Thankyou, I’ll go and have a look :)
Sorry, I have no idea what a tube pontil is. Don’t forget it’s amateur central here. Any indication that I have a clue what I am talking about on this forum is a mere illusion. I get found out as soon as someone asks me a technical question :hilarious:

I love it too but I have no room at home so I have to move things like this on.
I do worry about breaking something that has by hook or by crook defied the odds determinedly survived 100 years or more only to be destroyed by an over enthusiastic sight hound or a child doing handstands :bag:

I don't have any of those, I manage all by myself.:hilarious: Which is why I stay away from most breakables. I sold nearly all my Chinese porcelain in the 1980s.:arghh:

"Sorry, I have no idea what a tube pontil is."

    Please forgive me!

On the base, there seems to be a circular feature, probably characterized by ragged or even sharp edges...fractured glass. In the making of a glass article, the artisan must gave a 'handle' to manage the fiercely hot item. Those handles take several forms, one of them being a tube of some material that is fused to the glass under work. When the work no longer needs a handle, either at the end of creation or between processes, the handle is snapped off, leaving a scar; the pontil.

I am not a glass artist, so some of the above may be found erroneous by those far more familiar with glass-blowing than I.

I see, the bit that was snapped off when the item was finished.
I was looking at an old vase today that had a very rough area on the base.
The bottom of these are pretty smooth although one is more concave than the other.
    Thanks @wlwhittier :)

    Tube pontils are indented typically.

Certainly agree Czech/ Bohemian earlu 20th C and even the flowers are typical but I don't recognise the shape or decor myself - there's a lot of unattributed Bohemian glass but you might be lucky if someone has the research to back up a match.

So that’s probably what this is as the bases are concave?
Thankyou. I think Laura found the only match thats out there at the moment but I’ll keep looking. I’ll put them on a couple of Facebook pages and see if anything comes of that.

Not pushed in enough for tube, imo.

I'm amazed that they survived the seller's orange box. At least long enough for you to come along and save them. Even with a rim chip, I think someone would enjoy the pair of them.

Just a suggestion, these could easily have been blown in a mold without the need for a pontil of any kind. The gathering of the different layers would not need any support (pontil) nor would the molded shape. The part would have been turned while in the mold, (assuming a paste mold, soaked in water) the steam would have prevented any contact with the sides of the mold, eliminating any seam marks.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Can you explain? I have a feel for what you mean, but why orange? It it a standard color for the worst items? :sorry:
