I would like to determine the age and pattern of these two candelabra. They are so heavy, I had to have my husband carry them. I unscrewed the base off one candelabra and did the scratch test. I’m pretty sure it is Bronze. They are pretty filthy, but I will NOT clean them. The base that screws on looks like specter and it appears there is a number 6959 (see picture). I would love to hear your experienced thoughts.

    Hi Mary -
    Welcome to the board.
If you go back to your post, click Edit, More Options, Full Image. People on phones will be able to see your pictures.

I think your candelabra is brass. Not sure about age. Will let someone else answer that.

I have no clue why one picture posted twice.

    Thank you -
Go back the same way - Edit, More Options. There is a Delete button next to the images. You can do away with duplicates.

Keep in mind the edit button is only available for a limited time. Not sure, a couple of hours. Then it's gone.

Think this is a foundry mark.
If you rub corn starch or baby powder in it and lightly dust off - you may be able to make our some letters.

These look brass and rather new. I just don't see the casting quality I would expect from truly old ones.

Thanks! I will haul these heavy babies back to the thrift shop and put $20 each on them. I just that they were so heavy, they weren’t brass. Lol.

Is there a resource to view foundry marks? I’m really wanting to learn..

I did the baby powder on the bottom of the second candelabra.

Looks like someone on a winged horse? A centaur? I don’t know. FC7DBCC5-482F-4F33-AC41-50DAD7A0D5C7.jpeg

Sorry, all I see is a surface anomaly.

Is that a Saturn V rocket on the fireplace mantel?

Now that there powder on it, I guess it wasn't a foundry mark after all.
    Sorry.

    Welcome Mary.
I am with the others, brass. Maybe the base plate is of a heavier material for stability, adding to the total weight.
