I looked but couldn't tell what legend is depicted in the seven scenes on this 29" brass table top. Back is blank. The item looks like it is late 20th C. but the depictions are I think well-done and pretty interesting, as you will see there's quite a bit going on among the seven scenes. There's one scene in the middle and six in a circle near the outside. I don't know if the scenes all relate to one legend or seven different ones. I haven't a clue about the calligraphy and will tackle that later, may have to visit the mosque again.

Do the scenes ring a bell with anyone? I'll split them up into a few different posts so those with slow connections aren't perturbed. I'm sorry that 3 of the 7 images are rotated 90 degrees-tried to fix that on my media site and no-go.[IMG]

    I doubt it is turkish...
Turks had Sultan and not king and queen.

The central image shows a king and a pilgrim. That's all I've got.

    Nice tray.

Thanks, yes maybe Persian because then both the Muslim crescent and star plus the two-feathered crown would fit. Persian legends then?

Might have something to do with the Hajj.

    Persian seems likely to me.

Crown and sword of this Shah ca. 1800 are somewhat similar to those depicted in brass. The brass scenes look like they are supposed to be earlier. Note the high heels. Photo used under doctrine of free use for educational purposes.

I dont know about persian either...
Persians of that period had long pointy beards like the guy above and men in the plate have only very long moustache and symbolic beard if any. Also swords dont look persian to me nor does attire.
How about spain and the arab period

I really don't know what the scenes are depicting but a suggestion is one of the results of a Muslin victory during their long conquest of the of the Byzantine Empire to possible the actual Fall of Constantinople. Contrary to popular belief the Muslin leader did not kill or torture the Christian citizens of Constantinople, but gave them back their property and encouraged them not to flee.

One guy looks like he's being cudgeled into a vat of boiling oil while being whipped with snakes.
